Ah, the new B&T series of MP5 from Classic Army, a very interesting part of my collection.  This weapon has become a staple in my collection and one of my favourites. I am a Marui man all the way since I love proper trademarks and solid reliability, but I will say this model has impressed me very much.
A little about the MP5 in airsoft (as this is not really the place for real steel talk): It is regarded as one of the best “shoot and scoot” guns as it can easily be fired on the run and offers respectable performance and accuracy at short and medium ranges at a fair price. Styling is quite attractive too and if I am not mistaken is the most popular gun in Japan behind the M4. At this point, there are 3 companies offering the MP5 in airsoft. Having handled all three, the CA model is probably the most interesting in my opinion.
Being more reliable than the ICS version internally and incorporating new features, the B&T MP5 is built to impress. The white trademarks are a bit girly in my opinion but are standard on all of CA’s new guns. The fact that the bolt actually opens up took me by surprise as the bolt is molded on the Marui and ICS models. Pulling on the bolt reveals the hopup adjustment which appears to have hopup similar though not identical to the Marui AK hopup which is surely the one of the best hopup mechanisms in the world. Performance in stock form is not bad at all as I was able to get a fair amount of kills in short range woodland warefare and performed extremely well in CQB. For me, the flashlight foregrip never really worked for very long and is not even working at this point in time, ah well. Now, because I am who I am, none of my guns stay stock for too long. It’s upgrade time. Of course, compared to first generation CA guns, these are a drastic improvement. However, a few things did bug me. For one, shimming was off, a problem not found in a Marui gun.

Also, the new yellow piston appears to be a copy of the Systema piston with the straight edges which are reported to cause trouble with springs. Reshimming along with a stronger spring, Guarder blue piston and Systema piston head went in my gun. This rendered better range without sacrifising much rate of fire, batter power or even the fuse. Looking at the way CA puts their mechboxes together, it would seem they are designed to be serviced and upgraded as there is none of that baquelite type wax on the mechbox or torx screws.

So, overall not a bad MP5. I will say that if you want extreme internal reliability, go for a Marui. After having about 5 ICS/Airsoft Elite MP5s come across my workbench within the timeframe of 4 months for various problems, I will say that they’re a “no-no”. If you want an MP5 with a pretty good metal body that features the open bolt capability and has much better internal reliability than the ICS MP5 series, then you want a Classic Army Brugger & Thomet MP5.
